Newtonmore, home of the MacPherson Clan, is a small and tranquil town on the River Spey in the Scottish Highlands. It is often referred to as the walking capital of Scotland with a choice of riverside, glen and munro walks. So many other physical activities are there to be enjoyed, with a golf course on the banks of the Spey, pony trekking at the Newtonmore Riding Centre, fishing, shooting, stalking and weekly world-class shinty matches in season. For mountain bikers, be brave and prepare yourself - and the family - for a mountainbike ride on one of three routes (green, red and black) at the Laggan Wolftrack. While in Newtonmore, seek out the many local shops, cafes and restaurants lining the main street selling everything from Harris tweed to bespoke furniture.
