| detailed description of town and location: | Tavistock liegt am westlichen Rand des Nationalparks Dartmoor und hat ca. 11.000 Einwohner. Tavistock ist die Geburtsstadt von Sir Francis Drake dem Seefahrer.
Der Nationalpark-Dartmoor unterscheidet sich von anderen englischen Nationalparks dadurch, dass er nicht dem Rights of Way Act untersteht. Das heißt, der gesamte Park ist für Fußgänger zugänglich, sie müssen sich nicht an die bestehenden Wege und Straßen halten. Eine weitere Besonderheit des Nationalparks ist, dass er sich nach wie vor in privater Hand befindet und nicht dem britischen National Trust unterstellt ist. |
