 Description of accommodation

This is a truly lovely house, very Spanish and full of charm and character. We have refurbished it with style and filled it with lovely furniture, some modern and some antique, with Moroccan and Spanish influences.

The house sits in half an acre of cyprus, olive and almond trees stretching across three terraces. On the lower terrace, partly secluded by trees and shrubs, is the 9m (30ft) swimming pool with spacious stone terrace, perfect for sunbathing or relaxing in the shade. There are sun loungers and umbrellas but for most of the day there is shade in one perfect spot, under the old olive tree.

We have created beautiful gardens which lead to the house and down to the pool, from the formal entrance garden to the stone path with pretty fountain, you will be surrounded by flowers and shrubs. The trees are mature and give much needed shade, but the oleanders, lilies and lantana lift everything with brilliant colours.

The large, bright living room leads straight onto the pool terrace through the French windows and is open plan so the kitchen is at the other end, part of the old house but now connected. There's a comfortable sofa and chairs so you can relax and watch the kiddies playing by the pool. Next to the kitchen there's a dining table (seats 8) the kitchen is well equipped for a large group with room to cook in comfort while others relax close by in the living area. A perfect space to watch the setting sun through the French windows and across the pool.

POOL: the 9m (30 ft) pool is very private and surrounded by large terrace with green shrubs and trees. The whole pool area is south facing and gets loads of sun, it's always a big hit with guests who often hurry back from trips to relax here until dusk. There are sun loungers, plus table and umbrella, with a shady area under the generous olive tree.

FOUR BEDROOMS: There are two large L-shaped bedroom suites, both with a curtained area for privacy, both with ensuite bathrooms. Bedroom Suite 1 leads off the living room, it is bright and airy and sleeps a couple and two kiddies. Bedroom Suite 2 features french windows leading into the private back garden, this is at the back of the house and has two patios for relaxing in the sun or shade. Both bedroom suites have room for a couple and one or two children, there's also a cot for baby (optional). Bedroom 3 is a double, it's next to the house bathroom. Bedroom 4 overlooks the pool with large curtained windows for privacy - here there's a single bed with an option for another single. The house sleeps 10 comfortably, or even 12 with some sharing, eg. 3 or 4 young children sharing with Mum and Dad or grandparents in one of the large L-shaped suites. The five single beds (option for an extra bed) have good mattresses and the double and two queen-size beds are in good shape.
All the rooms in the house have fans, with two in the large bedroom suites.

BATHROOMS (3) We have good plumbing with extractor fans or windows in the bathrooms. All the bathrooms have been renovated in the last few years and are modern and easy to keep clean. We make sure everything is spotless for your arrival and can provide cleaning services if required during your stay.

GARDENS: There are several garden areas starting with the entrance gravel garden with paths and fountain, the pool is surrounded by gardens and finally there's a large very private back garden accessed from the kitchen and also via the french windows in bedroom suite 2. For a large group this means people can relax in different spaces and have some privacy or quiet time away from the kiddies.

DISCOUNT: The house is suitable for two families or a large group of close friends, we can sleep 12 at a stretch, but if you are a family or group of six or less, make this clear and we will offer you a 10% reduction.

- The place we were looking for (*****)
We have been spending a relaxing and regenerating vacation at Tina's beautiful house. The pool is amazing and a perfect place where to cool down during the hottest hours of the day. The spot is immersed in the green, not far from the town of Orgiva and the garden is made to seclude the house and provide a proper privacy. Never before have we found such an equipped kitchen and everything was available in the house. As 5 adults, we could enjoy our spaces with all the confort. A balance between seaside and stunning beaches (Costa Tropical is a jump away), real mountain (Mulhacen is 3,500mt high and the villages on the Alpujarra are well worth a visit) and the culture, history and heritage of Andalusia (Alhambra in Grenada is one of the wonder of the world and a "must visit destination") made this holiday memorable (and a true surprise, actually...). We will miss Tina's kindness and her cats. Hopefully, not for too long...

- Lieu idéal pour se ressourcer (****)
La maison avec son jardin fleuri a beaucoup de charme. Située en dehors de la ville d'Orgiva à 2.5 kms, l'environnement est idéal pour se reposer et se ressourcer. Même si Tina, la propriétaire, vit dans le même bâtiment, elle se fait toute discrète. Elle nous a fait quelques courses de bienvenue et cette attention nous a touché. La localisation de la maison est idéale : elle permet d'accéder en 35/45 mn aux premières plages, à Grenade ou aux randonnées dans les montagnes (Muhlacen). Nous recommandons ce lieu sauf pour ceux qui n'aiment pas les chats : ceux de Tina ne sont pas farouches !

 Detailed description of town and location

Orgiva is in the Alpujarra Valley which is 1500 feet above sea level, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a paradise for walking, cycling and horse riding. The highest mountain in southern Europe, Mulhacen, is walkable for the fit, it takes about 5 hours. The three highest villages in Spain are just half an hour away - Bubion, Pampaneira and Capileira are stunning places, full of art and crafts, with exquisite views across the Sierra Nevada peaks.

Beaches:
Orgiva is 35 mins drive from the Costa Del Sol, the nearest beach is at Motril, but there are many beautiful beaches and interesting resorts including Almunecar (Jazz Festival mid July), La Herradura, and Nerja which has several beaches.

Granada is a 'must see', a very elegant and beautiful city, with its Moorish influenced old town and of course the Alhambra Palace and its spectacular gardens and buildings. Not to be missed and an easy day trip from here, it's just less an hour away.

Travel:
Malaga airport is 1 hour 30 mins drive and we can arrange for you to be collected, for approx 100 Euros. But we recommend that you have a car as we are 5 mins drive from the centre of Orgiva. Granada Airport is 1 hour away.

Distances:
We are 5 mins (2 kms) drive to Orgiva which is the nearest town, or a 35 minute walk. It is half an hour's drive to Pampaneira and Capileira, two of the highest mountain villages in Spain, well worth visiting and full of arts and crafts shops.

Further Details:
Orgiva is a charming working/market town with all the necessary amenities including supermarkets, banks and a hospital. There are many bars and restaurants and the town's central Plaza really buzzes at night, so there's plenty to do until the early hours, including two discos.

The Alpujarra Valley is famous for its mountain walks and the three highest villages in Spain are half an hours drive from Orgiva - Bubion, Pampaneira and Capilleira are some of Spain's prettiest white villages. They have craft shops and typical Alpujarran restaurants, plus spectacular Sierra Nevada views at every turn.

There is horse riding, hang gliding and bikes for hire. The nearest beach at Motril is just 35 minutes away, but this part of the coast is very unspoilt and resorts like Almunecar (written about by Laurie Lee 60 years ago), Salobrena, La Herradura and the very pretty Nerja, are all close enough for day trips.
