The village of Psematismenos has a population of 200 and is very centrally located 34 km from Larnaca and Limassol and 50 km from the capital Nicosia. The foothills of the Troodos Mountains, the “Blackforest of the Mediterranean”, begin 15 km northwest of Psematismenos. The village has a bank, a small minimarket, a restaurant and a village-café. Further taverns, shops, bakeries, butcheries and supermarkets can be found in the surrounding area. The village Zygi, situated 4 km off Psematismenos has a harbour and numerous fish-taverns which are very popular among locals during the weekends. The coastal area of Psematismenos consists of pebble stones and is frequently interrupted by small beaches with dark sand. With the exception of Governors Beach, all nearby beaches have a minimal amount of tourist development. Situated 11 km from Psematismenos, Governors Beach has numerous small hotels, family-run taverns and a beautiful, long and sandy beach surrounded by white rocks.
